Special Education-Program Specialist

 

Working from one of our Pennsylvania Family Service Centers, the Program Specialist will ensure the K-12 continuity of CCA goals and vision as it pertains to the students of CCA, and enable and provide more direct collaboration with both staff and families.  The Program Specialist will be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs, curricula, staff development, and the Individualized Educational Plans for identified special education students. Program Specialist will consult with school certificated personnel to ensure compliance with special education law.

The Program Specialist will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support and increase effective instruction and learner growth.  The Program Specialist will provide personalized support based on teacher-specific goals or identified as a need of the individual teacher. Program Specialists support the design of online courses, establish effective communication and relationships with all stakeholders, develop expert knowledge and practice of online teaching and course design, and perform other duties as assigned as part of this role.

 

Responsibilities:

• Participate in the development of innovative instructional and behavioral intervention methods to meet the exceptional needs of students
• Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers
• Demonstrate knowledge using a variety of assessment tools
• Facilitate the use of research-based teaching strategies and best practices to address the needs of teachers and school goals
• Actively engage in research regarding best online teaching and learning practices
• Demonstrate knowledge of and the use of supplemental programs to assist in students' acquisition of knowledge
• Demonstrate the use of instructional technology and other educational tools to enhance and extend instruction
• Develop expert working knowledge of the learning management system
• Work with CCA’s Learning Department, Principals and Special Education Administrators to assist all teachers in implementing best teaching practices
• Provide consultation to special education teachers, administrators, support personnel, parents, and regular education teachers regarding the writing and implementation of Individual Educational Plans
• Assist teachers with activities and concerns, including instructional strategies and Individualized Education Program (IEP) development
• Observe teachers in their Guided and Live Classroom sessions and offer insights for the enhancement of teaching-learning situations
• Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies
• Model lessons when appropriate
• Mentor new hires for teaching staff, coordinate and deliver required induction
• Travel to CCA’s various Family Service Centers to provide group professional development and individual sessions with teachers
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with administration, teachers, parents, and students
• Assist teachers with activities and concerns including instructional strategies and Individualized Education Program (IEP) development
• Assist with assessment and placement of students as needed or required

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office

equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

 

Physical Demands

 This is largely a sedentary role. Requires the ability to lift, squat, sit, bend, or stand as necessary. 

Ability to travel to other sites/locations as needed.

 Requirements:

• Highly qualified Pennsylvania Special Education certified teacher
• Instructional II status
• Minimum 3 years teaching in a virtual setting
• Master of Education degree
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Preferred:

Additional certifications demonstrating an understanding of teaching specialized learners such as ESL, ABA, BCBA, etc.

 

Travel

• Travel will be required for this position.
